SES Nail Adapters for Franz Cells

SES Nail Adapters are 28mm wide by 34mm long and were designed to work with 9mm Franz Cells having flat ground or flat flange joints. They have o-rings in the clamping surfaces to prevent leakage. Nail specimens may be secured without or without sealant by four stainless steel screws that hold the assembly together.

Nail Adapters are available in three different varieties at this time. Nail Adapters made of plastic can be machined from either ABS or Neoflon. We also have 5mm Nail Adapters available in Type 316 Stainless Steel. All the pictures on this page show the ABS adapters because its black color gives it better contrast for viewing purposes.

The photograph below shows all the components of a Nail Adapter. Included are both halves of the adapter, the o-rings for the surfaces adjacent to the Franz Cell components, and the stainless steel screws that hold the Nail Adapter together.

The photograph below shows the underside of an assembled Nail Adapter. A piece of Teflon foam is shown between the upper and lower components for clarity. The screws are spaced to not interfere with a 9mm joint.

The photograph below is of a 9mm jacketed Franz Cell with a Nail Adapter. Please note that the cell has a flat ground joint but the clamp is a horseshoe clamp which is normally used with flat flange joints. Pinchclamps cannot open wide enough for Nail Adapters so horseshoe clamps are used. The horseshoe clamp has longer screws than standard.

The photograph is of a 9mm unjacketed Franz Cell with a Nail Adapter. Please note that the cell has a flat flange joint and horseshoe clamp although longer screws are provided to accept the ~10mm thickness of the Nail Adapter with a specimen. Devices as thick as 30mm have been used in Franz Cells with flat flange joints and horseshoe clamps.
